Early Life
Daria Kasatkina was born in Tolyatti, Samara Oblast, on May 7, 1997, to Tatyana Borisovna and Sergey Igorevich Kasatkin. Her father is a Volga Automotive Plant engineer, and her mother is a lawyer. Her parents were both nationally ranked Russian athletes. Kasatkina has an older brother named Alexandr as well. Kasatkina has never revealed any information about her educational qualifications, friends, or school life to anyone. Daria Kasatkina Career
When Daria was six years old, she persuaded her parents to let her start playing tennis. For the first two years, she played two to three times every week. She progressed to higher-level tournaments over time. Kasatkina was ranked as high as No. 3 in the world as a junior. She began competing on the ITF Junior Circuit when she was 14 years old and won her maiden championship at the Grade 4 Samara Cup, her second professional event. Kasatkina made her professional debut in the 2013 Kremlin Cup as a wildcard qualifier, where she lost her sole match. In November, she made her professional main-draw debut on the ITF Circuit, and a few months later, she won her first career title at a low-level $10K tournament in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
Rise to Fame
The following September, she won a $25K title in Telavi, Georgia. Kasatkina continued to progress in the WTA rankings throughout the 2016 season, reaching No. 32 in the world while still 18 years old and No. 24 later in the year. Kasatkina’s ranking remained stable throughout 2017, dropping no lower than No. 42 in the world and returning to the same season-high of No. 24 as in 2016. Kasatkina’s late-season success from the previous year carried over into 2018. She reached the quarterfinals of the St. Petersburg Trophy and subsequently the final of the Dubai Tennis Championships, two Premier tournaments, after only winning one match in three tournaments in Australia.
Kasatkina was unable to replicate her success from previous full seasons on the WTA Tour in 2019. Her ranking slipped from the top ten at the start of the year to as low as No. 70 by the end of the season. Kasatkina first competed in 2020 in Auckland, where she overcame Carla Suárez Navarro before losing in the second round to Amanda Anisimova. Kasatkina began her 2021 season with a three-set victory over Wang Qiang in the first round of the Abu Dhabi Open.
She reached her first WTA 1000 semifinal of the season and her second of her career at the 2022 Italian Open, where she was defeated by Ons Jabeur. As a result, she re-entered the top 20 rankings, and on May 16, 2022, she was re-crowned Russian player No. 1. Daria achieved the greatest feat in her career so far as she reach the semi-final of the French Open where she would be competing against the current no 1. WTA Iga Swiatek.
