Daniel dedicated himself to playing basketball and rugby as a youth until he was perceived and appreciated by one of his college coaching staff of the University of Hawaiʻi football team, which found Faalele scouting players in Australia. Faalele soon developed his interest in a local satellite camp that was being run by one of his head coaches Jim Harbaugh in Michigan and garnered interest in multiple Division I programs. Faalele was soon recruited to play football at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. After practicing and being on the field till 2016, he soon became a starter on IMG’s offensive line in 2017. Later, he was selected to play in 2018 Under Armour All-America Game and was given the prospect of becoming a four-star recruit. He chose to play football for Minnesota over the benefactions from other universities including Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Florida State, etc.
Faalele played a total of 10 games as a true freshman with the final eight games of the season at right tackle. He was given the honor of the All-Big Ten Conference. Following the year, he was honored as one of Australia’s 50 Greatest Living Athletes by GQ Australia. Faalele played 11 games at right tackle and was honored as All-Big Ten during his sophomore season. In 2019, Faalele discontinued performing in football games and dropped out of his other seasons because of the COVID-19 crisis. Later, the media made many projections that Faalele would enter the 2021 NFL Draft, but he remained committed to playing with Minnesota for his senior year. On 28th December 2021, he entered the final game and scored his first career touchdown in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl while standing against West Virginia.
