Early Life
Christians Lee Encarnacion-Strand was born on December 1, 1999, in the United States. Encarnacion-Strand grew up in Pleasant Hill, California, and attended College Park High School. As a senior, he was selected the Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division’s most valuable player after hitting. There were 40 hits and 27 runs batted in, leading to a score of 455.
Christian Encarnacion-Strand Career
During his time in college, Encarnacion-Strand played baseball for Yavapai. As a freshman, he was voted the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He scored a .402 hit and led the conference with 22 home runs and 70 RBIs.
Strand was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 34th round of the 2019 MLB draft. But he did not sign the contract with the club. He hit .430 with 11 home runs and 33 RBIs in 25 games as a sophomore. Unfortunately, the season ended before the coronavirus outbreak.
Encarnacion-Strand moved to Oklahoma State University to finish his undergraduate degree. The Oklahoma State Cowboys honored him as their One and Only Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Year after he hit.361 with 15 home runs and 66 RBIs.
Minnesota Twins
In the 2021 MLB draft, the Minnesota Twins selected Encarnacion-Strand in the fourth round. After joining the team, he was put on the Low-A Southeast Fort Myers Mighty Mussels. In 2022, Encarnacion-Strand debuted with the Cedar Rapids Kernels of the Midwest League’s High-A division. He hit 296/.370/.599 with 20 home runs and 68 RBIs in 74 games with Cedar Rapids before being moved up to the Double-A Wichita Wind Surge.
Cincinnati Reds
On August 2, 2022, the Twins transferred Encarnacion-Strand, Spencer Steer, and Steve Hajjar to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Tyler Mahle. The Reds placed him on the Chattanooga Lookouts, their Double-A affiliate. In the lower leagues in 2022, he hit.304/.368/.587 in 484 at-bats and was tied for second in RBIs with 114, behind Matt Mervis.
Encarnacion-Strand was sent to the Triple-A Louisville Bats to start the 2023 season, where he played in 67 games and hit.331/.405/.637 with 20 home runs and 62 RBI. On July 17, 2023, he was called up to the main leagues for the first time after being included in the team’s 40-man roster.
