Personal life

Brooke Goldstein and Matthew Simon have three children. Their first child arrived in 2015, the second in 2017, and the third in 2020. All were born in New York, but the family traveled often within the United States and abroad.

Before 2020, they lived in Brooklyn, the Hamptons, and Los Angeles. In December of that year, they moved to Israel. By mid-2021, the children became Israeli citizens and received Israeli passports. While in Israel, they attended school, joined extracurricular activities, and visited doctors. They spoke English but did not learn Hebrew.

A family vacation to Italy in October 2023 changed their plans. Hamas attacked Israel during that time, leading them to relocate. Miami became their new home, where the children enrolled in school, joined activities, and visited doctors. They also spent time with extended family. For the 2024–2025 school year, they registered in both Miami and Israel schools.

In late 2023, Brooke and Matthew started arguing about staying in Miami or returning to Israel. Brooke filed an ICARA petition in federal court, claiming Matthew wrongfully kept the children in Florida. She wanted the court to order their return to Israel. Despite the dispute, they continued living together in Miami with their children.

A four-day bench trial followed. The court ruled against Brooke, deciding that Florida had become the children’s habitual residence. Even if Israel had been their habitual home, the judge found no wrongful retention by Matthew. Brooke was not prevented from taking the children to Israel.
