Brian Martin Ortega is an America-based professional mixed martial artist. He is currently signed with the UFC featherweight division. Brian is a professional fighter since 2010 and has also competed in RFA and remained a featherweight champion. As per the latest ranking on 21st September 2021, he ranks at #2 in UFC featherweight rankings.

Early Life

Brian Ortega was born on 21st February 1991 and was born in Los Angeles, California. He was brought up and nourished in San Pedro, California. Brian belongs to dual nationality as he is of Mexican descent and both of his parents are from Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. He started learning martial arts at a very age when he was merely 5 years old. He initiated his practice while being at Al Martinez Muay Thai Kickboxing in Wilmington, CA. When he became 13; he started his training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

When Brian was just 17, he met his boxing coach named James Luhrsen who trained him and made him learn striking skills. Ortega started competing for regional promotions in Southern California. He first won the title of pro-MMA championship while competing against Carlos Garces with a five-round bout and he earned the title on his name by unanimous decision. Ortega went to make an undefeated record of 8-0 before actually getting contracted with UFC in April 2014.

Brian Ortega Career with UFC

Ortega was scheduled to make his promotional debut against Diego Brandao on 31st May 2014 at UFC Brazil 3 Finale. However, Diego Brandao pulled out the bout while citing that he was severely injured. Due to the change and late in the nature of change, officials didn’t try to find any replacement for Brandao, and later, Ortega was pulled out from the card as well.

Due to this, Ortega made his debut with UFC on Fox 12 on 26th July 2014 while standing against Mike De La Torre. Originally, the first round was like a game-win for Ortega but the results were later changes to NC (No Contest) as Ortega was tested positive with drostanolone while screening for the same after the fight. This further made Ortega get fined $2,500 and was also suspended for nine months. Ortega is scheduled to stand against Alexander Volkanovski on 25th September 2021 at UFC 266.

Ortega has been living in a relationship with his long-time girlfriend named Stephanie Roberts. They both have been together for many years and have two children. Roberts belongs to Torrance, California, and has one sister and one brother named Miros Vazquez and Robert Roberts respectively.
