Amanda Scarborough Biography

Amanda Scarborough, a renowned American media figure, gained fame as an ESPN softball analyst. She began as a player while in college and later became an assistant coach, trainer, and motivational speaker. Despite a career-ending injury, she continued to contribute to the sport as an analyst and also shared insights through her blog with softball tips and guides.

Early Life

Amanda Scarborough, born May 10, 1986, discovered her passion for softball at age five. Her father’s love for the sport influenced her greatly. When she turned eight, Amanda began pitching due to a shortage of pitchers on her team. This ignited her passion for the game, and she persisted despite having to travel an hour each week for practice.

Amanda chose softball over volleyball in high school and made varsity as a freshman. She played on several D1 teams outside of school, garnering interest from college coaches and scouts. Amanda’s dream was to play for Texas A&M, and in her junior year, she received a scholarship offer from them. She confirmed the offer and was excited about pursuing her softball career at the university.

Amanda Scarborough Career

Amanda’s freshman year was full of ups and downs. She threw a no-hitter in her debut but suffered a head injury from a line drive. Despite wearing a helmet and missing the regionals, she received the distinction of Big 12 Player of the Year and was recognized as the first-team All-American. The following year, Amanda led Texas A&M to their first Women’s College World Series appearance in 20 years with an outstanding performance in 2007.

Though her last high school season had to be stopped early on account of a wound that made further play impossible, Scarborough achieved an impressive record with a .447 batting average, 4-2 as a pitcher, and a 2.27 ERA in 2008. She graduated from Texas A&M with a B.A. in communication in December of that year and continued to be actively involved with Texas A&M softball. Scarborough served as a graduate assistant for the 2009 season and later became a volunteer pitching coach in 2010. In May 2011, she earned her M.S. in sport management.

Since 2009, Scarborough commenced providing on-air analysis for ESPN’s coverage of NCAA Super Regionals. In 2015, Scarborough became a part of ESPN’s on-air team for the Women’s College World Series for the first time. Ever since then, she provides the best possible play-to-play analysis of softball games across the country.
