Alessia Zecchini is an Italian personality and a freediver who set world records in freediving. She is the main person of interest in Netflis’s The Deepest Breath, directed by Laura McGann. The film was recently released on 14th July 2023 in Ireland on Netflix. It has different dates to be released on Netflix and was released by the same film channel on 19th July 2023 in the United States.

Early Life

Alessia Zecchini was born on 30th June 1992 and was brought up by her loving and caring parents, Enzo Zecchini is her father while her mother’s name is not known. Her father completed graduation from the Sapienza University of Rome.

He currently works as the associate director of a corporate company in Italy. Alessia’s mother is a homemaker and takes care of the family. Zecchini had her education at Liceo Scientifico Secondary School from 2006 to 2011, and Università di Roma “Foro Italico” from 2010 to 2014.

From 2007 to 2010, Alessia took part in several rallies alongside the national team, but due to her young age, she was unable to engage in competitions in the highest category. In 2011, she participated in the first Italian competition in Turin, where she had second place after Ilaria Bonin.

This achievement made her a securing place in the national team. Then in 2012, she had her participation in the Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques (CMAS) European Championship in Antalya, Turkey, where she achieved fourth place in the JUmp Blue and sixth place in static apnea.

In 2013, she had her first achievement and the world record in Kazan, Russia. She won the gold medal in Static Freediving with an average time of 6’23”. In 2014, she first participated in the AIDA International competition and won three silver medals in dynamic apnea with monofin with 223m, setting two Italian records.

Rise to Fame

In 2015, Alessia participated alongside her partner Ilaria Bonin in the CMAS Indoor World Championship held in Mulhouse. As a team, they achieved remarkable success, securing an impressive collection of five gold and silver medals.

In June 2016, during the CMAS Indoor World Championship, she won three gold medals and had a world record with three CMAS championships. In 2017, Zecchini began her practice of freediving with her international coach and safety diver, Stephen Keenan, who died the same year in June when she and the diver went to recreational dive across The Arch of the Blue Hole.

Later, it was not recorded as the dive because that was full of mistakes and difficulties by the pair that further led to the major disaster. After that, Zecchini came under the guidance of Martin Zajac until the 2018 competition of the season. The same year, she had the world record with −104 m (−341 ft) depth in the Vertical Blue competition on 10th May in the Bahamas.

In 2018, Zecchini had another world record in the contest weight [CWT] on 10th May in Columbia in the Nirvana Oceanquest Freediving Competition. She had two other world records in the 2019 Nirvana Oceanquest event in Curaçao. After two days, she became the first lady to achieve the record of going deeper by −100 m (−330 ft).

In July 2021, she had three CMAS World Records in the Vertical Blue on Long Island, Bahamas. The same year in October, she had her participation in the CMAS Outdoor World Championship, winning a gold medal and a silver medal.
