Venus Lacy Career

During the initial years of her career, she came to know that the U.S. team lacked a women’s pro league. This was the reason she had to play for different teams belonging to Greece, Italy, and Japan. But, she tried her best to remain stuck to her common rules and helped her Greece team to appear in the European championships during the particular season of 1995 to 1996. On 19th June 1996, during the ABL Draft, Lacy was the first person to be selected by the Seattle Reign. But, in the beginning, it seemed that her luck was working in the opposite direction, and wanted her to leave the game. Back in 1997, Lacy was severely injured because of a car accident, because of which she had to complete her 1997 season in Seattle on the injured list.

The following year after the injury in 1997, Lacy was selected by the ABL’s expansion Long Beach Stingrays. In the first several years, the expansion team performed fairly poorly. The team appeared for the ABL Finals, they lost the game to the Columbus Quest but won the first two games, later played in Long Beach due to scheduling conflicts in Columbus, and finally, the Long Beach Stingrays went to lose the game in Columbus. After one year, the Long Beach franchise folded even though it could not withstand the on-court success.

Rise to Glory

During this time, Lacy was drafted by another ABL expansion team called Nashville Noise. During the season 1998-1999, the team played only 15 games. Because of her injuries due to a car accident, Lacy had to go without any draft by WNBA. In the mid-1999 season, Lacy was picked by the New York Liberty to fill the vacant place for their injured player Rebecca Lobo. Venus got the chance to play at least 17 games during the year and two more in the next season of 2000. Again, the team could earn “not much success and had to go without any major achievements”.
