Tyrese Haliburton is a professional basketball player for the Indiana Pacers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He attended Iowa State University and was picked by the Sacramento Kings in the 2020 NBA Draft. As part of a trade package for Domantas Sabonis in 2022, the Indiana Pacers acquired Haliburton. Early Life
Tyrese Haliburton was born on February 29, 2000, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He was raised in a basketball family because both his mother and father were Division III players at Iowa State. Tyree began playing basketball at the age of three and soon developed a passion for it.
He established the program’s single-game assist record while a freshman at Iowa State. Despite a season-ending wrist injury, he enjoyed a breakout season as a sophomore and was nominated to the second-team All-Big 12 Conference. At the FIBA Under-19 World Cup in Heraklion, Greece in 2019, Haliburton led the USA to a gold medal and was named to the tournament’s all-tournament team.

Haliburton represented Oshkosh North High School in Wisconsin basketball. He was selected for the defense team and second team of the Fox Valley Association (FVA) All-Stars as a sophomore. Haliburton averaged 18 points, six assists, and five rebounds per game as a junior, winning FVA Player of the Year and Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division I All-State honors although his team fell just short of the State Tournament.
In the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division, I state championship victory over Brookfield East High School, which was his team’s first state championship. He received awards including Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year, FVA Co-Player of the Year, and Oshkosh North-western All-Area Player of the Year. Haliburton was chosen for the USA Today All-USA Wisconsin first team and the WBCA Division I All-State team.
NBA
As the 12th pick in the first round of the 2020 NBA draft, the Sacramento Kings selected Haliburton. The Kings announced Haliburton’s signing on November 27, 2020. Haliburton’s first NBA game took place on December 23, 2020. In overtime, his club defeated the Denver Nuggets 124-122 with his help off the bench.
Haliburton suffered a left knee injury on May 2, 2021, while competing against the Dallas Mavericks. Even though a subsequent MRI revealed that Haliburton’s ligaments were unharmed, the Kings announced that he will sit out the final seven games of the 2020–21 season just to be safe. Haliburton earned the third-most votes for Rookie of the Year and was named to the NBA’s All-Rookie First Team.
On January 29, 2022, the Kings were defeated by the Philadelphia 76ers 103-101. 38 points, seven assists, three rebounds, and two steals were a career-high for Haliburton. He also added three boards and two steals. With a career-high 17 assists, 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals against the Oklahoma City Thunder on February 5, Haliburton defeated them (113-103).
On February 8, 2022, the Pacers acquired Haliburton, Buddy Hield, and Tristan Thompson in exchange for Domantas Sabonis, Justin Holiday, Jeremy Lamb, and a 2023 second-round pick. On February 11, Haliburton’s first game with the Pacers, they played the Cleveland Cavaliers and lost 120-113. He finished with 23 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. Haliburton and Desmond Bane won the 2022 Clorox Clutch Challenge, which was contested for the 75th time during the 2022 NBA All-Star Weekend.
