Tyler Shelnut is the baseball infielder for the Florida Gators Baseball team, playing in the NCAA Division 1. He came to Florida following two years at Santa Fe Community College after transferring. He was a four-year letter winner in baseball at Fort White High School under head coach Rick Julius. Tyler has been named All-Conference, All-Section, and All-City four times between 2017 and 2020, and All-State three times between 2018 and 2020.

Tyler Shelnut was born on 27th September 2001 to Darryl and Wendy, and he has a sibling named Nick. He plans to study education sciences at the University of Florida. Tyler attended Sante Fe CC for two years, 2021 and 2022, and he was a two-way player in his first year there. In 2022, he made First Team All-Conference, in 2021 he made Second Team All-Conference, and in 2021 he was voted Mid-Florida Conference Fireman of the Year.

In 2022, he hit.333/.420/.747 over the course of 45 games, which was good enough to tie Santa Fe’s single-season record for home runs. Over the course of his 84-game career at Santa Fe, he hit.306/.339/.627 with 26 home runs, two triples, 19 doubles, 85 RBI, 84 runs, and four steals.

As a freshman, Tyler went 3-3 with 12 saves, a 3.09 ERA, and 30 strikeouts in 35 innings spread across 21 appearances. He was selected as the best player in Class 5A in 2018. In high school, he posted a.319/.494/.556 batting line with one home run, twelve triples, seventeen doubles, fifty-three runs, thirty-six RBI, and twenty-one stolen bases.

Tyler struck out 216 batters in just 152 innings while posting a 1.84 ERA and a.213 batting average against. He played baseball for the Gatorball Baseball Academy team.

Tyler was named to the PG Preseason All-American team twice and to the PG Preseason All-Region team once. A total of eight times between 2017 and 2020, he was named to the tournament’s All-Tournament Team. Perfect Game has him listed as the No. 13 SS and No. 67 player in Florida for 2020, and he is the No. 75 SS and No. 369 overall recruit in the country.
