Steve Spagnuolo is an American football coach who currently is the defensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League. For the same position, he has also won two Super Bowls.
Early life
Steve Spagnuolo was born on December 21, 1959, in Whitinsville, Massachusetts, United States and then when he was young, his family moved to the Grafton area. There are no more details regarding his parents and siblings shared by him on the internet. From a young age, he used to play football and was even a part of his school team. Spagnuolo attended Grafton (MA) High School in Grafton and then later attended Springfield College in Massachusetts. He played the position of a wide receiver at college and even assisted the University of Massachusetts football team while pursuing his graduate degree at Springfield.
Steve Spagnuolo Career
In 1999, Steve began his professional NFL career as a coach by serving as linebackers and defensive backs coach at the Philadelphia Eagles. For nearly eight years he worked with the team and in January 2007 he was hired by New York Giants under head coach Tom Coughlin as the defensive coordinator. After one year, on February 7, 2008, Steve became one of the highest-paid defensive coordinators in the NFL with a new three-year contract, worth roughly $2 million a year. After the 2008 season, Steve joined St. Louis Rams with a four-year contract worth $11.5 million. The first season saw St. Louis’s worst record for 1-15 and the worst season in franchise history. The team progressed to 7-9 in 2010 and then 2-14 in 2011 which resulted in the worst record in the league. He was then fired in 2012.
Later Steve became the new coach at New Orleans Saints, and the next season the team saw the most yards for defense in NFL history which resulted in Steve getting fired on January 24, 2013. Before joining the Giants again, Steve was hired as a senior defensive assistant for the 2013 season by the Baltimore Raven, due to successful records he was promoted to secondary coach in 2014. In 2015, Spagnuolo joined the team of New York Giants again as a defensive coordinator, due to a good record of the team, he was named as the interim head coach of the Giants. After being the coach for 2 years, he was not retained by head coach Pat Shurmur and in 2019, Steve joined Kansas City Chiefs. After the season ended, Spagnuolo won his 2nd championship in Super Bowl LIV.
Controversies
Over the years, Steve has been the coach for many teams at Universities and in NFL as well. He has been through many criticisms for the team’s poor performance and worst records in history, no doubt he has been away from any controversies. Many players anonymously have called upon many coaches and Steve has been one of them. The most famous of them all is the losing season by New Orleans Saints.

Steve has been married to Maria Spagnuolo since 2005 and they are still together. They got married in Vatican Rome, Italy on July 9th, 2005. Being together for almost 16 years they have 5 children al-together named Donna, Steve, Debra, and twins Kevin and Kurt. Maria was a hairdresser and worked at Nirvana Hair Gallery. In fact, Kevin Manahan even visited her for a haircut in 2008. The 61-year old NFL coach does not have an official social media handle on any platform.
