Early Life
Sam Reich was born on 22nd July 1984 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Robert Reich, who was later to be a U.S. Secretary of Labor, and Clare Dalton, a law professor. His brother, Adam Reich, is currently a professor of sociology at Columbia University.
In 2000, Reich resigned as a teacher at the Buckingham Browne & Nichols School because of clinical depression and to build an acting career. He moved to New York and started a comedy group named Dutch West, producing videos in the growing internet video space.
Career
In 2006, CollegeHumor found Sam Reich and hired him on as Director of Original Content. He rapidly advanced, being made President of Original Content in 2009 as The CollegeHumor Show began on MTV. Sam then founded Big Breakfast in 2014, an in-house production company of CollegeHumor which helped it move its content production team to Los Angeles.
The company produced a number of television and online series during his tenure, including Adam Ruins Everything (TruTV), the Middle of the Night Show (MTV), Time Traveling Bong (Comedy Central), the Britishes (DirecTV) and I Want My Phone Back (Comcast Watchable), Bad Internet, and Rhett and Links Buddy System on YouTube Red.
Sam Reich has created musical works with the likes of Weird Al Yankovic and even made music videos with former first lady Michelle Obama. Reich made another significant step in his career, becoming owner of CollegeHumor, spinning it off of its parent company, IAC, in January 2020. He reorganized it into CHMedia and resumed content production on the Dropout streaming service.

Since 2010, Reich has been married to actress and writer Elaine Carroll, whom he met at summer camp in 2000. They have also worked together on creative projects, the most famous of which is the web series Very Mary-Kate.
In a recent statement (2024), Reich wrote that he and Elaine are both, as he put it, a little queer, a personal and revealing insight into their changing relationship. Their cooperation is an old relationship, based on creative collaboration and understanding.
