Robert Irwin is an Australian conservationist, zoologist, wildlife photographer, television presenter and activist. Robert, son of the late Steve Irwin, the renowned, so-called Crocodile Hunter, and Terri Irwin, has grown up in a world of wildlife and conservation, and has assumed numerous roles that would pay tribute to his father.
He serves as an employee of Australia Zoo, including as a host and co-host on television, author, and in community outreach and environmental activism. More recently he has also entered more mainstream media prominence now by competing in the U.S. on Dancing with the Stars, and more generally becoming a household face outside the wildlife video and zoo practice.

Early Life
Robert Irwin was born on 1st December 2003 in Buderim, Queensland, Australia. He is the youngest of two sons to Steve Irwin and Terri Irwin. His given name is a tribute to his two grandfathers, Robert (in honor of Bob Irwin) and Clarence (in honor of Clarence Raines).
In 2006, Robert Irwin was aged two when his father died suddenly due to a stingray injury when he was filming an underwater documentary. Subsequently, he and his elder sister, Bindi, were homeschooled at Australia Zoo, where they were brought up among animals, wildlife conservation, and the day-to-day activities of running a zoo.
His mother is Australian, and this makes him a dual citizen (United States and Australia). Even at a young age, Robert was introduced to the role of wildlife care, rescue, rehabilitation, and education because of his upbringing at Australia Zoo, together with his mother and sister, and due to the legacy of his father affecting much of his early exposure.
Career
The work of Robert Irwin is multi-dimensional because it encompasses conservation, media, photography, education, and a speaking career. As a child he appeared in wildlife and nature-based television programs like Wildlife Warriors with Steve Irwin and as the co-host of Wild But True on Discovery Kids.
He has also become a serious amateur photographer; he has competed (such as in the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year junior category), sold his photographs and used his photographs to promote animal welfare.
Over time he has made appearances as a guest on shows and in a documentary and has done some voice acting (such as in the children’s show Bluey). Today, he assists in the operation of most of the activities at Australia Zoo, such as handling rescued and rehabilitated animals, participating in wildlife performances, participating in outreach, and working on conservation programs.
His hosting work has increased as well: he also has television presenting obligations in I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! on Network 10, to replace Dr. Chris Brown, beginning in 2024. Robert Irwin is also a participant in Dancing with the Stars (U.S.) in its 34th season with his partner Witney Carson.
There, he is becoming more publicly visible than wildlife-based audiences. Robert has long said that he would like to continue the work of his father, which is to create awareness about conservation problems, habitat loss, and animal welfare, and do it in the media and at the zoo itself.
Personal Life
As of 2025, Robert Irwin is single. He has been in one open romantic relationship, with Rorie Buckey. Their relationship was reportedly initiated in 2022, and they were Instagram-official as of 2023. They had spent more than a year together before disengagement in February 2024.
Since that time, Robert has come out to talk about not being in a relationship but being interested in finding someone kind and genuine someday based on the relationship models of his mother and sister.
Social Media Presence
Robert Irwin has a social media profile with more than 8M followers under the handle of @robertirwinphotography, where he posts wildlife photography, behind-the-scenes shots of things happening at Australia Zoo, personal conservation thoughts, and aspects of his life as a young public figure.
He writes frequently about animals, nature, his deployment in wildlife rescue, and advocacy-driven messages about protecting the environment. He also posts his personal interests and lifestyle content, particularly relating to his work or travels. His influence is expanding: he is among the youngest conservationists to have a large crossover presence through television, social media, and partnerships.
Robert Irwin Net Worth
As of 2025, Robert Irwin is estimated to have a net worth of about US$5 million. This is a mix of several sources: his job at Australia Zoo; earnings in television hosting, guesting, and reality television (e.g. Dancing with the Stars); photography; book deals and print sales; endorsement and campaigning; media exposure.
Although his father Steve Irwin passed away when Robert was very young with an insurance policy of approximately US$200,000, a good part of Steve money had been invested back into Australia Zoo and conservation initiatives.
