College career

Stearns competed in collegiate tennis for two seasons at the University of Texas at Austin, becoming the first Texas player to secure the NCAA Division I Women’s Singles National Championship in the spring of 2022.

Her decision to pursue a college tennis career and later transition to the professional circuit was inspired by the achievements of fellow American Danielle Collins, ultimately leading her to turn professional in June 2022.

WTA Journey

Stearns marked her entry into the WTA Tour’s main draw during the 2021 Silicon Valley Classic, where she secured a spot as an alternate in the doubles main draw. Her debut on the Grand Slam stage occurred as a wildcard entrant at the 2022 US Open.

In a thrilling three-hour match at the inaugural Texas Open, Stearns clinched her maiden WTA victory as a wildcard, defeating qualifier Katie Boulter.
