Nicki Collen Biography

Nicki Collen (née Taggart) is an America-based basketball coach and is currently holding the position of head coach for the women’s basketball team at Baylor University.

Early Life

Nicki Collen was born on May 13, 1975, in Indiana and her family relocated to Platteville, Wisconsin when she was 10 years old. Although Collen doesn’t reveal the names of her parents, she says that her father was an accountant. He was promoted from assistant controller to controller to CFO to CEO, and the family had to follow his natural progression, shifting from one place to another.

While living in Wisconsin, Collen went to basketball camps with Bo Ryan. the family had to relocate due to her father’s financial progress from Ohio to Indiana and from Indiana to Wisconsin. Collen played at Purdue University and Marquette University. While being a collegiate with Purdue, she reached the final four in her freshman season (1993 to 1994). Also, she played all four years of NCAA Tournaments.

Playing Career

Nicki Collen began her education and playing career at Purdue University. At that time, she was involved in a team that won back-to-back NCAA Tournaments in 1994 and 1995 along with the winning Big 10 Championships. When she was going through her junior year, she was transferred to Marquette, where her presence on the team led the team to appear in consecutive NCAA Tournaments. Being there, she earned all-conference honors and earned the honor of being called third nationally in assists during her senior season. After completing her college career, she spent one year playing professional basketball in Greece with BCM Alexandros.

Coaching Career

Nicki Collen started her coaching career at Colorado State as an assistant. She was then hired by Ball State, Louisville, and Arkansas and was then moved to Florida Gulf Coast. Being at Florida Gulf Coast, she helped the team score a historic record of 31–3. Collen received her coaching under Curt Miller with the Connecticut Sun after she was done with her college assistant responsibilities. That time, she helped the Sun achieve a record-making score of 21-13 in 2017. On 30th October 2017, Collen was announced to be the new head coach of Atlanta Dream taking over the place of Michael Cooper.
