Mayra Flores is a Mexican personality and American citizen who is a politician by profession and previously a graduate student of health practitioner from the state of Texas. Currently, she is a member of the Republican Party and is presenting herself for Texas’s 34th congressional district following her victory in the special election after 14th June 2022, when she left behind the former Congressman Filemon Vela, Jr.
Early Life
Mayra Flores is a 1985/86-born personality who spent her infancy stage at Burgos, Tamaulipas. Her parents were farm workers during the time. Her family had to relocate to different places throughout Texas during her childhood, from where she completed her high school and simultaneously worked in the cotton field with her parents in Memphis. Mayra’s parents were migrant and farm workers and like other migrant children, she had to move to other places while growing up. She spent a few years of her life in the Rio Grande Valley.
Education
She completed her high school in 2004 in San Benito, TX. She worked with her parents to earn money for her school dress, clothes, and other supplies. Working with the parents helped Myra instill the importance of education and hard work from a young age. Since her childhood, she has been an American dreamer and often used to fight for things so that other people can also achieve the life she had. She is grateful to her parents for helping her instill the knowledge of common work like farming, allowing her to live and survive in the country and to live with the dream of America.
Mayra Flores is a graduate student of South Texas College from where she received her bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership in 2019. She also received her degree as respiratory care practitioner in 2014. She was brought up by her Democratic parents and she changed her direction from being democratic to Republican because of her anti-abortion views.
Mayra Flores Career
Before becoming a part of congressional congress, Mayra worked for Hidalgo County Republican Party as chair of Hispanic Outreach. Mayra announced her candidacy for Texas’s 34th congressional district following the announcement of Filemon Vela Jr.’s retirement in March 2021. She ran her campaign and sought help from the Hispanic and Latino Americans to support her and show their concern to the Democratic Party, which they have been historically showing to the South Texas region. On the other hand, following the establishment of a new congressional district, the incumbent Democrat Vicente Gonzalez of the 15th district announced his candidacy for the position of 34th District representative. Later on 1st March, both Flares and Gonzalez won their primary elections and are said to face each other in the general elections on 8th November 2022.
In March 2022, Vela announced his resignation from a stable position in congress to work at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. Shortly after Vela’s resignation, Flores declared her intent to run for the elections to fill the vacancy. The elections for the position were later fixed for the date 14th June 2022. After the elections, Flores defeated her opposition Dan Sanchez and won her elections. After winning the elections, Flares became the first Republican, and the first woman elected from the lower Rio Grande Valley.
