Matt Tebbutt, in full, Matthew Charles Tebbutt is a High Wycombe-born English chef who has developed himself into a TV presenter, and the author of the books called Cooks Country: Modern British Rural Cooking and Guilty Pleasures. He is the food presenter on the shows like Channel 4’s Food Unwrapped and Drops Down Menu, the BBC’s Saturday Kitchen, and the Good Food channel’s Market Kitchen.

Early Life

Matt Tebbutt is 49 years old as he was born in 1973 in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, and later moved to South Wales at the age of 6 months old with the family (but names not revealed). He went to Geography and Anthropology at Oxford Brookes University after which he started training in working with airplanes but he was fascinated by the love of cooking. He, therefore, started studying at Leiths School of Food and Wine in London before landing certain work in London’s prestigious restaurants. Matt worked with some of the famous and high professional chefs during his time like Marco Pierre White at the Oak Room and Criterion, and Alastair Little, who had a great and influential hand in helping him to learn cuisine.

Matt developed a passion for making good food and he gives the credit to his family who relocated to France and Italy during his holidays from school. His decision to become a chef came later in life after he started studying geography at Oxford Brookes University and had the early ambition to become a pilot. He even joined the university air squadron and eventually decided to get rid of his 12-year signing profile of RAF and thereby became a chef.

He gained a diploma from Leith’s School of Food and Wine and earned new techniques and skills while working with Marco Pierre White, and then moved to the kitchens of Chez Bruce with a brief period with Clarke’s kitchen where he earned the skills of making bread. In 2001, he returned to Wales and started a restaurant with his wife Lisa. The restaurant was named Foxhunter pub, which earned AA Restaurant of the Year for Wales in 2004. He later left his restaurant work and thereby started focusing on his TV career. He worked with various highly professional chef personalities like Alastair Little at his Lancaster Road and Soho restaurants.

Tebbutt started working on Saturday Kitchen on BBC One while the regular host of the show named James Martin was away. Matt is now the regular personality on the show after the departure of the earlier host. He also worked to present the show Food Unwrapped on Channel 4 alongside other hosts like Kate Quilton and Jimmy Doherty. He also worked to present “Market Kitchen” with Tom Parker-Bowles and Matthew Fort and also worked on its successor show called “Market Kitchen: Big Adventure”, where he worked alongside Penny Smith. He worked and co-presented the most-watched and stunning Channel 4’s show called Drop Down Menu with Gizzi Erskine. In December 2016, he co-presented another most-watched show called Christmas Kitchen, which was (in real) a daytime series for BBC One, where his co-host was Andi Oliver. He also worked in other shows like Save Money: Good Food, and Daily Kitchen Live on BBC- which were made in response to the pandemic season helping people to guide on the small tips and tactics to save food in time of need. In 2008, Tebbutt published and became the author of two books namely, Cooks Country: Modern British Rural Cooking and Guilty Pleasures.
