Mark Calcavecchia, in full, Mark John Calcavecchia is an American personality, professional golfer, and a former member of the PGA Tour. He earned 13 PGA Tour winnings including the 1989 Open Championship and also played on the Champions Tour.
Early Life
Mark Calcavecchia was born on 12th June 1960, making him 62 years old as of 2022. He was born in Laurel, Nebraska, and brought up in West Palm Beach, Florida where the family shifted in 1973 during his teenage years. Mark went to North Shore High School in West Palm Beach and earned the Florida high school golf championship in 1977. He played for the North Shore Golf Team during his high school years. While playing in his junior tournaments, he used to compete against Jack Nicklaus’ son, Jackie, and soon their games turned into a long-life friendship beginning at the age of 14.

Mark began playing professionally in 1981 at the age of 21. He joined the PGA Tour in 1982 but lost his card after the 1985 season. Mark had the most notable achievement of his career in 1989 when he earned the title of The Open Championship (the “British Open”), one of the four major championships, where he was brought forward after beating the other champions of the time, Wayne Grady and Greg Norman in a four-hole playoff.
Mark has won a total of 13 PGA Tour events and 16 other professional events, summing up to total career winnings of 29. He earned the world golf ranking of 10 and committed to the position for 109 weeks from 1988 to 1991. On 25th July 2009, Mark made the PGA Tour record by hitting 9 consecutive birdies during the second round at the RBC Canadian Open in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. Calcavecchia married twice in his life, the first time to his wife Sheryl, with whom he shared two children, Eric and Britney.
