Makena Brocki Biography

Makena Brocki has performed out of her mind for the San Diego Aztecs Softball throughout the 2023 NCAA Tournament. She is an outstanding third-baseman softball player with exceptional range, and she keeps getting better at the plate as she gains more experience. Makena participated in club ball for the OC Batbusters. She chose San Diego State over Auburn, DePaul, New Mexico, Loyola Marymount, Portland State, Seattle, and Dixie State.

Early Life

Makena Brocki was born in West Covina, California, on November 12, 2001. She is the daughter of Mike Brocki and Rhonda Wheatley. Mike, her father, played baseball at Cal State Dominguez Hills and was a member of the Seattle Mariners organization, while Rhonda, her mother, was an All-American softball player at Cal Poly Pomona… All-Pac-12 Conference performer at Washington, Courtney Gano later represented Team USA in soccer.

Makena Brocki Career

Makena joins the Aztecs after earning five letters at Chino Hills High School, where she helped the Huskies win back-to-back league championships in 2018–19 (team was 9–2 overall and 1-0 in the league before the 2020 season was cut short due to COVID). She hit.381 (107-for-281) during the course of her career, with 46 RBIs, 84 runs, 15 doubles, four triples, and two home runs. She was also a three-time first-team all-league performer and played soccer for four years at CHHS and is a scholar athlete.

In her freshman year, she was a mainstay in the starting lineup for most of the season at third base, starting 25 games and playing in 41. She batted.192 (15-for-78) with six RBIs, 11 runs, a double, and five walks while committing only four errors in 91 fielding chances for an impressive.956 fielding percentage. During the Mountain West competition, started 10 of the 22 games she participated in and batted.231 with two RBIs and six runs.

Brocki had her first multi-hit game on Feb. 26 when SDSU defeated No. 5/6 Washington 3-0. She had two hits, including her first career double, an RBI, and two runs against San Jose State on April 18. She finished her season with two hits, finishing 2-for-2, in the season finale against Fresno State.

Makena Brocki started 43 games and played in 48 as a regular at third base and in the starting lineup. She batted.275 (33-for-121) with 22 RBIs and 19 runs scored and an on-base percentage of.341 making only eight errors in 130 fielding chances, for a fielding percentage of.938.

She started and played in 23 Mountain West games, including a multi-hit game in each of the Fresno State games on March 25-27. During a series sweep against San Jose State from April 29 to May 1, she scored three runs, stole a base, and had five RBIs. When the Aztecs defeated Cal State Fullerton on May 21, she had a season-high six assists. On May 12, she recorded a season-high three RBIs in a game against New Mexico.
