Kumar decided to commit himself to Vanderbilt University to play baseball. In 2018, major league baseball draft he was considered one of the top prospects. He wasn’t selected until the 38th round by Colorado Rockies, he was falling because of signability concerns. He enrolled at Vanderbilt in the fall of 2018.
