Early Life

Katja was born on the 19th of October in the year 1980 she is the daughter of violinist Vera Beth and oboist and conductor Werner Herbers. She was born in Amsterdam a city in the Netherlands and later moved to America. She spent a lot of her time in America during her growing up days and was accompanied by her mother on tour with the group L’Archibudelli. How mother later remarried to a socialist Anner Bylsma and her father remarried to costume designer Leonie Polak who introduced her to Theatre.

Surprisingly she had a Canadian au pair and learned to speak many languages including Dutch German and English while she was growing up. She went to the ignited gymnasium in Amsterdam and later studied psychology at the University of Amsterdam for a year between 1999 to 2000. During this time, she also attended the local Theatre de trap and later moved to New York City and attended HB studio. She got accepted into the Academy of Theatre and dance, which was previously named De Theatre school in Amsterdam between 2001 and 2005.
