Jeff Kurr was born in California and developed a fascination for sharks and other wildlife at a young age. Kurr graduated from San Diego State University in 1984 with a degree in telecommunications and film.
Kurr pursued a career as a newscast director for network affiliate stations, where he won over 20 awards for his work, including the prestigious RTNDA Edward R. Murrow Award in 1989.
