Early Life

We will keep you updated once we get a hand on it. In 2019, the Southlake Carroll lefthander who had previously been unknown tossed 4.2 scoreless innings against the nation’s top-ranked Argyle team. He only gave up one hit, struck out ten hitters, and ultimately won the game for his team.

It was his final regular-season game before an injury interrupted his debut season. Then COVID-19 erased his second year of college. During his final year, Herring was unhittable on the mound, as he went a combined 47 innings without allowing a run. It all came to an end in the 6A state playoffs at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, when Fort Bend Ridge Point scored a seventh-inning run to give Carroll a 6-1 victory.

Griffin Herring Career

In his lone appearance at the state tournament, Herring went the whole and struck out 13. He faced Keller, a district opponent, in the regional finals and pitched a full-game shutout, allowing only two hits and striking out eight hitters. Herring first pledged his allegiance to LSU in October of 2018, months before he ever threw a varsity pitch, and he maintained that allegiance through a change in coaching staff the following year in 2021.

Herring’s draft stock increased as his strikeout total went up this year. He arranged a session with a few Major League Baseball organizations in advance of the draft, he is ready and eager to pitch for the Tigers anyway. In 2022, he led Southlake Carroll to the state championship with a 13-1 record, 0.24 ERA, 145 strikeouts in 87 innings, and 47.1 consecutive innings without allowing a run. In the postseason for Southlake in 2022, he went a perfect 6-0 with 71 strikeouts and an ERA of 0.19.
