Gretchen Evans Biography

Gretchen Evans is an American personality and a retired Command Sgt. Maj. She is currently serving as a veteran as the board member of several organizations and is involved in the volunteering work for the Guide Dog Foundation and America’s VetDogs. She is holding a career of around 27 years in the Army and later after losing her health because of the injury, she started working as a motivational speaker, giving life lessons at various corporate, sports, and veteran events.

Gretchen Evans is also an author and shares powerful stories through her words. She is the recipient of the Saginaw Valley State University Veteran Alumni of the Year award which she received in 2016 and later in March 2021, she was inducted into the U.S. Army Women’s Hall of Fame. Most recently [July 2022], she is in the news because she would be receiving the Pat Tillman Award for Service during the ESPYS.

Gretchen Evans is 61 years old as she has not revealed her exact date of birth. She was born as one of three siblings, all being raised in Abilene, Texas. Despite not coming from a military background, her father once participated in the conflict related to the national war. After completing high school, she enrolled in Texas Tech but soon discovered that the expenses of her tuition were affecting her life and were creating a financial barrier.

After spending four years in administration duties, she decided to pursue her career in the Army with the intention that she would work for them and they would pay for her family and livelihood and it would also help her to continue with her research. Evans was listed as a United States Army personality in September 1979 and was directly assigned to the position of Intelligence Analyst for Commander in Chief, Europe. She soon became the lead analyst in the Peacetime Aerial Reconnaissance Program and became responsible for directing aerial reconnaissance giving directions to the multiple platforms. After spending her responsibilities and duties for the position, she enrolled herself for studying German and Italian at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. She received her graduation and afterward, she was assigned to the 66th Military Intelligence Group, Field Office Vicenza, Italy. She was directly given the hold of the pursuit and subsequent release of General Dozier from his kidnappers.

Evans was posted for a significant designation in the black operations unit, where he got the chance to receive Basic Airborne and Advance Airborne training at Fort Benning, Georgia. Later she was given the responsibility to oversee all training for the Counterintelligence Agents and Interrogators of the 519th Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort Hood, Texas. In October 2001, she became a significant part of the ground attack during the invasion of the United States via air attacks on Afghanistan. She also worked as the personal security officer for Governor Huckabee and was given the hold or responsibilities of the Command Sergeant Major of the 212th Signal Battalion.

From 2003 until her retirement, Evans had to move from one position to another at least 9 times including her duties in the Middle East where she played the role of her final assignment while being the Command Sergeant Major of Commander, Combined Forces Command, Afghanistan. She is the recipient of several medals, awards, and accolades including the Combat Action Badge, the Bronze Star, the Presidential Unit Citation Medal, and Global War on Terrorism ribbons, 6 Meritorious Service Medals, and many more. While performing her duties in Afghanistan, she was hit by a mortar round blast, which made her suffer through a traumatic brain injury, total hearing loss, and other wounds, and this marked the end of her army career. Until then, she served more than 27 years in the Army and was powerful enough to overcome her injuries herself.
