Fred first came on the set of Jeopardy in 2009, but he was not selected. He said that the process of the year was different at that time. Again, he gave an online test in February, went through virtual auditions for the second time, and had a practicing game. Later in August, he received the call and joined as a contestant on Jeopardy.
The episode where he was televised came on 15th September at the time of COVID-19, after he followed all the protocols for the disease. He had a negative test for COVID-19 and eventually was able to visit the Sony Studio in Culver City.
The most impressive thing was that the week’s episode was recorded in one day. That time, he learned the tricks and the tactics to use the buzzer. He says that clicking the buzzer at the right time takes practice because if you click early, you get locked and lose your chance of clicking again.
