Faauuga Moliga is a member of the San Francisco Unified Board of Education where he assumed his work on 8th January 2019. His current term ended in 2022 and he lost the recall election on 15th February 20222. Early Life
Faauuga Moliga is a native of San Francisco and also belongs to San Francisco Unified School District alumni. He was brought up in the neighborhood of San Francisco of Bernal Heights and Hunter’s Point, where he lived with his family in public housing. While being a student of Paul Revere Elementary, he gained first-hand insight of SFUD, and many other schools including Downtown High Continuation, Burbank Middle School, McAteer High School, John Adams, and lastly as the graduate from Balboa High School. Later in his life, he came to understand the importance of public education while being connected with the schools as a father of his children.
Moliga went to San Jose State University and received a bachelor’s degree in Justice Studies. Earlier in college, he had the intention of becoming a lawyer. But, he left the school when he discovered that only five out of 55 Pacific Islanders at Burton had a 2.00 GPA. However, there was a lack of support for the Pacific Islander students and Moliga was compelled to start TOUCH (Take Out Until Completely Healed). He ran a program for at least six years that was based on supporting one hundred young women and leading to at least a 90% college transition rate for all seniors.
Faauuga Moliga Career
Faauuga has worked for different programs including a student advocacy program that was based on helping truant students chronically. After this program, he tried his hands with the working body of Burton High School where he had an increase in the school attendance and also worked on the decrease in its push-out rate. While he was connected with Burton, Faauuga helped extend the support for PUMA prevent initiative. After he completed his work with Burton, Moliga started studying for San Jose State University’s School of Social Work. His work was associated with the concentration of mental health and social justice.
Despite this, he got himself interned for the SFUSD student intervention team and also spent a year with the Carver Elementary School while working on the wide support of the system and individual counseling of the students and educators. Moliga graduated from a recognized school or university and was later recruited by the Richmond Area Multi-Services where he was hired as a therapist for June Jordan High School. Today, He works for the Department of Public Health Community Wellness Program where his work is to build wellness centers with the practice of trauma-informed practices for students at Downtown High School, where he performs his duties once a week.
