Dejounte Murray is an asset for the Atlanta Hawks who’s been in blistering form in the recent time. He is probably one of the best players at this moment in the team and most of the time, he delivers when it matters the most. Early Life

Dejounte was born on September 19, 1996, in Seattle, Washington. He went to Rainer Beach High School in Seattle. The school is famous for producing many top-league NBA players. Murray was on the school basketball team and was an outstanding player. He then joined the University of Washington and continued playing basketball in college. There he began his collegiate basketball career and played with the Huskies for one season. After that, he got drafted by NBA within a year.

Murray began his basketball career in high school. Rainier Beach High School is well known to produce top professional basketball players. NBA players such as Jamal Crawford, Terrence Williams, and Nate Robinson are all Rainier Beach High School alumni. Dejounte has led the team to win Class 3A State Championship titles. He was also named The Seattle Times State Player of the Year. Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association gave him the title of Washington Mr. Basketball.

Dejounte joined the University of Washington in 2015-16. He only played one season of college basketball for Washington Huskies. He was named second-team All-Pac 12 in his freshman year. His average was 16.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists as a freshman. In 2016 he was selected in the first round of the NBA draft. He was selected by San Antonio Spurs with the 29th all-over pick. He made his NBA debut in October 2016 in the Spurs’ third game of the season.

In his rookie seasons, he appeared in several matches but he still contributed with all his might. He gave an excellent performance in the next season and earned NBA All-Defensive second-team honors.  Murray missed the entire 2018-19 season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury. In 2022 he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Danilo Gallinari. 

Controversy

Dejounted came under highlight when he made a few negative comments against the Spurs. He accused the team of playing dirty mind games and politics. He has always been an honest player and is never afraid to give his opinion. His comments were not taken in the right sense by the fans and he got a lot of backlash for his comments. Soon after that Dejounte apologized to the team for making such comments.
