Cameron Young is holding the 2nd spot in The Open 2023 falling behind Brian Harman. In the world Golf ranking, he stands strong at the 18th position, and in career earnings, he is at the 28th spot. Cameron qualified for the Pinnacle Bank Championship, where he achieved 11th place, giving him entry to the next event at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, where he earned enough points to become a special temporary member for the rest of his 2020-21 season.

Young also qualified for back-to-back Korn Ferry Tour events in May 2021, which gave him 19th place on the 202-21 regular season points list, and helped him earn the PGA Tour card for the season 2021-22. Back in February 2022, Young played for second place at the Genesis Invitational and this made him rise into the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking.

Early Life

Cameron was born on 7th May 1997 in  Briarcliff Manor, New York, where he was brought up till adulthood. His father David is a director of golf at Sleepy Hollow Country Club, and his mother’s name is Barbara. Cameron was destined for golf as he showed his skills by entering the world of golf from a young age.

Back in 2011, he became the younger winner of the Carter Cup and MGA Junior champion. Later in 2015, he was honored with the title of MGA Player of the Year and won the prestigious Ike twice in his professional life. He has claimed the Westchester (NY) Golf Association Amateur too but could not work to finish his game and earn the title.

Since childhood Young was good enough in his studies, he had enough grades in both academics and games. So he went to Stanford but later chose to commit to Wake Forest, where he obtained Lanny Wadkins Scholarship. In March (second week), Cameron Young would be having the chance to break Wadkins’ tournament records which is nearly 264 in total from the last 30 years.

Young has received the title of freshman in the U.S. Collegiate Championship twice in his career. He has also been the recipient of the titles of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational. He has achieved All-Atlantic Coast selection three times from 2017 to 2019.

Young is a rookie on the PGA Tour and in March 2022, will be posing great opportunities for him to showcase his talent at Riviera. He appeared in the 2017 U.S. Amateur before he lost the round of 64 to Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre, who also made a cut while playing in Riviera.

Cameron was one of the players in the 2019 Genesis Invitational Showcase, where he played alongside Wake alum Bill Haas. there at the event, Young failed to achieve a spot in the field but he had a great experience in all the games, so that made an important thing for him.

After he turned pro in 2019, Young remained with only status on the Mackenzie Tour in 2020, but the Tour was later canceled because of a pandemic. He had Monday qualifying into Korn Ferry Tour events, where on his fifth try he shot 64 and earned a place in the Pinnacle Bank Championship in Omaha, Nebraska.

After he began the season with no status, he finished the season 2020-21 with number 17 with the standing points. He also won the title of AdventHealth Championship and Evans Scholars Invitational in back-to-back weeks.

With his fifth start as a rookie, he made his first appearance in the PGA Tour with a cut at the Sanderson Farms Championship and finished the tour with second place while earning the largest amount of his career which is $627,000.
