Allison Jaslow Biography

Allison Jaslow is the Chief Executive Officer for IAVA (Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America). Since January 2020, she has also worked at Duke University as Adjunct Professor. In July 2022, she became a co-founder of the organization Operation Liberty. 

Early Life

Allison Jaslow was born on 29 July 1982 in Arlington, VA., which makes her 40 years old as of 2023. Regarding Allison’s family background, her father died when she was 13 years old. She was raised by her loving mother name Margaret. She has two siblings named Caitlin, and Lauren (Sister). 

Talking about Allison Jaslow’s education, she finished her primary education. She graduated from Liberal Arts Wentworth Military Academy and College. She earned a B.S. degree in Political Science and Military Science from the University of Central Missouri (From 2002-2004). 

Allison Jaslow Career

Allison Jaslow began working after finishing her University education. She worked as a Communications and Political Assistant at EMILY’s List for a short period. She joins the U.S. Army. From June 2004 – Sep 2004, she attended Officer Basic Course at Ft. Lee, Virginia. She worked as Platoon Leader and Accountable Officer in Taji, Iraq, where she provided leadership and direction to 37 soldiers in combat. From Jan 2006 – Sep 2006, she worked as an executive officer in Ft. Carson, Colorado. From Sep 2006 – Jun 2008, she worked as Battalion Adjutant in Baghdad, Iraq, and ranked best captain. There, she supervised a staff of 10 Soldiers and managed all personnel actions for nine units subordinate (1,200 total soldiers), including casualty operations. Later, she left the US Army.

From Jul 2008 – Nov 2008, she managed the daily operations of Carol Shea-Porter for the campaign objectives of Congress. She was recruited as Special Assistant, White House Director of Communications in the West Wing of the White House from Jan 2009 – Jun 2009. From Jul 2009 – Jan 2010, she worked as Communications Director for the Democratic Party of Virginia. Her responsibilities include managing media relations and approved direct mail for House and Senate candidates.

Rise to Fame

Allison is a hardworking and committed woman. She works in the U.S. House of Representatives under Congressman Steve Kagen From Jan 2010 – Dec 2010. From Jan 2011 – Jan 2012, she worked for Senator Jim Webb. Feb 2012 – Apr 2012, she became Senior Advisor and worked for the Office of Congressman Howard. Berman. She was a campaign manager at a political organization named Friends of Cheri Bustos from Apr 2012 – Dec 2012. From Jan 2013 – Apr 2015, she served as Chief of Staff for Congresswoman Cheri Bustos. From May 2015 – Oct 2015, she worked for a Political Organization named Human Rights Campaign. 

In January 2016, she joined IAVA. In March 2016, she was promoted to Chief of Staff. From Apr 2017 – Mar 2018, she served as an Executive director for IAVA’s policy initiatives and communications operations. From Dec 2018 – Jul 2019, she worked as an executive director of a political organization named DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee). In March 2018, she joined Yale Law School as Consulting Expert. Same Year, she worked as a Team Member for CFR (Council on Foreign Relations) in New York.

Volunteering Work

  • From October 2014 – December 2021, she served as a Board of Trustees Member at Wentworth Military Academy and College. 
  • From September 2018 – November 2019, she served as a Board of Directors Member of the Center for Law and Military Policy. 
  • From May 2019- May 2022, she served as a Board of Directors Member at 2LT Richard W. Collins III Foundation. 
  • She worked as a Charter member of the National Parks Conservation Association.
  • In March 2022, she served for IAVA (Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America).

Personal Life

Allison Jaslow is an LGBTQ supporter and she is openly gay. On Twitter, she came out publicly and shared that she thought about being gay at the age of 24 and when she turned 26, she was certain of it. However, she didn’t make any public announcement at that time but when she turned 34, she decided to finally face the consequences and accept the truth. She posted, 

Started thinking I might be gay at 24. At 26, I was sure. My process of coming out after that was slow & under the radar. But at 34, I finally put it out on the internet. Coming out is hard. Its scary. But if you can muster up the courage, it’s worth it.
