Allisen Corpuz is an American professional golfer who recently won her first-ever major at the 2023 US Women’s Open last week. Her career began in 2008 when she surpassed fellow Hawaiian Michelle Wie West to become the youngest qualifier in U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links history. Allisen currently stands at the 6th spot in the world ranking and the 1st spot in career earnings.  

She is the youngest player to qualify for a USGA event and is a student at the University of Southern California. Her golfing prowess enabled her to finish T16 in the LPGA Q-Series in 2021, securing her membership on the LPGA Tour for the 2022 season. She finished three times in the top ten, including a season-best runner-up performance at the ISPS Handa World Invitational.

Early Life

Allisen Corpuz was born on March 20, 1998, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Allisen Corpuz’s father’s name is Marcos Corpuz, and her mother’s name is May Corpuz. Her older brother, George Son Corpuz, is a golf fan and a source of motivation for her, having followed her progress from amateur to professional.

Allisen Corpuz attended Punahou School, has a Rolex ranking of 51 and a CME ranking of 56, and was ranked No. 15 on the World Amateur Golf rankings in 2021 before becoming a professional. Corpuz is currently getting her Master’s in Global Supply Chain Management, a Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics, and a Graduate Certificate in Sustainability and Business. This is after she completed her bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Allisen Corpuz Career

The rookie golfer had early success on the LPGA Tour and had a strong amateur career. Corpuz won the Hawaii State Open and also competed for Hawaii in the Asia Pacific Junior Cup in 2014. She played for the West team in the AJGA Wyndham Cup (2012). Prior to college, she had competed in six USGA championships, the second most ever, and had nine top-10 finishes in AJGA majors and over 15 top-5 AJGA results.

As a high school senior in 2016, she finished second in the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship and won the Hawaii State High School Championship on the fourth playoff hole. Additionally, Corpuz competed as an amateur in the 2016 LPGA Lotte Championship at Ko Olina Resort, where she shot a second-round 72 and ultimately missed making the tournament’s cut by three shots.

Corpuz guided the USC Trojans women’s golf team to a 71.57 stroke average throughout her time there (2016-2021), and she was named to the first team of All-Americans for her efforts. She competed in the 2020 and 2021 Arnold Palmer Cups, as well as the 2021 Curtis Cup.

The 2020 U.S. Women’s Open was her third U.S. Open and sixteenth USGA title. Despite a 19-hole deficit to eventual champion Rachel Kuehn, Corpuz finished second in the 2020 North and South Women’s Amateur at Pinehurst Resort. She reached a career-best of seventh in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

Allisen Corpuz, who turned pro in 2021, placed sixteenth in Q-School and thus qualified for the LPGA Tour in 2022. In her first season, she made 17 cuts in 21 events and finished 41st in the rankings. She finished second in the ISPS Handa World Invitational and third at the Pelican Women’s Championship, giving her a total of three top-three finishes.
