Allen Stone Biography

Allen Stone is an American R&B/ soul singer and songwriter. Allen has been in the industry since 2010. The talented singer has so far released five albums. He is set to appear on American Idol season 21 as a mentor. He will also perform for the audience on the show.

Early Life

Allen was born on March 13, 1987, in Chewelah, Washington. His father was a preacher in the local church and his mother was a nurse. Allen began singing at his father’s church and basically was raised singing gospel music. He was the lead singer at church worship and he also used to play guitar. Allen discovered soul music in his teenage years. He developed a great interest in classical music and he would collect albums from the 1960s and 1970s. Allen was only fifteen when he first heard Stevie Wonder’s album Innervision.

He got the inspiration to take his musical career seriously from his close friend Stacie Orrico. After her success in music, he decided to follow the same path. At the age of 18, he graduated from high school and then moved to Spokane. He joined a community college in Spokane but a year later he transferred to Bible College. After a year Allen dropped out of there too and relocated to Seattle. From there he finally pursued his musical career.

Allen Stone Career

Allen took his career seriously after moving to Seattle. He started writing songs and soon formed a band with local musicians. His band would perform at West Coast Club and become quite famous in the area. In 2010 Allen recorded his own album named Last to Speak. He released the album digitally under his own label StickyStone. So far he has released five albums Last to Speak (2010), Allen Stone (2011), Radius (2015), Building Balance(2019), and Apart (2021). Three of them were released under the ATO records. 

Allen’s career took a leap when he released his second album in 2011. It gained a lot of popularity. The album was loved by R&B music listeners. His album Allen Stone peaked at number 2 spot on the R&B charts on iTunes. Allen worked with Andy Grammer, Miles Davis, and Raphael Saadiq and went on cross-country tours frequently. His headlining show was the one in Salt Lake City.

His music has been featured on shows like ‘American Idol’ and ‘The Voice’. He has also appeared on the show ‘Idol’ to perform a duet with Marico Donaldson. His songs have also been featured in several series and movies. In 2022, Stone competed in the American Song Contest. He represented his home state Washington and he finished in fifth place.
