Alex Storako is the star of Oklahoma Sooners and she is a redshirt senior at the university. Widely recognized as a driving force in the Sooners’ pitching department, Alex’s exceptional skills make her a key player on the team. Before joining Oklahoma, she made a name for herself during her four-season stint at the University of Michigan, spanning from 2019 to 2022.

During her junior year at Michigan in 2021, Alex accomplished an incredible feat by setting a team record. Early Life

Alex Storako is the daughter of Rob and Jamie Storako born on March 6, 2000. Camden, Brayden, and Madison are her three siblings. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree. Before changing schools, Storako spent her first two years of high school at Bishop McNamara High School in Kankakee, Illinois. She then attended Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfort, Illinois.

High School 

She struck out more than one batter per inning as a freshman, helping the Irish finish third in Class 2A. As a sophomore, she guided Bishop McNamara to the Class 3A Elite Eight, finishing with a 1.85 earned run average (ERA) with 201 strikeouts. She had a.433 offensive batting average, 19 extra-base hits, and 35 RBI. She was named second-team all-state in 2016.

After completing her sophomore year, Alex transferred to Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfort, Illinois. Alex had a 22-3 record, 0.86 ERA, and 289 strikeouts in 178 13 innings as a junior. She had a 21-2 record, a 0.76 ERA, and 255 strikeouts in 128+2/3 innings as a senior. She had a.439 batting average, 11 doubles, five home runs, and 31 RBIs to go along with a.780 slugging percentage and a.495 on-base percentage.

Following a fantastic season, she was named the 2017-18 Lincoln-Way East High School Senior Female Athlete of the Year, Southwest Suburban Conference Softball Player of the Year, and The Herald-News Softball Player of the Year, as well as earning first-team all-state accolades in 2018. She concluded her high school career with 918 strikeouts and a win-loss record of 70-19.

College 

Storako made her collegiate debut against NC State on February 8, 2019, striking out six batters in three hitless innings. She had a 14-6 record, a 2.02 ERA, and 190 strikeouts over 142 13 innings in her rookie season. She finished the regular season with back-to-back Big Ten Freshman of the Week accolades and was chosen to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.

Alex had an 8-3 record, a 2.43 ERA, and 141 strikeouts in 75 innings during her sophomore season, which was cut short after 23 games due to the COVID-19 epidemic. She finished fourth in overall strikeouts (141), and third in strikeouts per seven innings (13.2).

During her junior season, she went 22-3 with a 1.05 ERA, 270 strikeouts, and a.138 opponent batting average. She recorded seven shutouts that lasted the entire game and assisted in another six. With a career-high 19 strikeouts in a one-hit complete game shutout against Nebraska on March 11, 2021, Storako tied the Michigan single-game strikeout record.

Rise to Fame 

She established a Michigan single-game record on May 5, 2021, when she struck out 22 batters in a 1-0 victory over Michigan State. She only allowed two hits and two walks in nine innings of work to earn the complete-game shutout. Storako led the nation with 12.9 strikeouts per seven innings, placed fourth with 3.26 hits allowed per seven innings, and ranked eighth with a 1.05 ERA.

She was chosen as the Big Ten Conference Pitcher of the Year after a standout campaign, was unanimously chosen for the first team of the Big Ten, and was recognized as a second-team All-American by the NFCA. Storako pitched her first career no-hitter and struck out 13 hitters in a game against Drake on March 5, 2022.

She came within one walk of a perfect game in the sixth inning. She had a 22-7 record, a 1.69 earned run average, 274 strikeouts, and a.167 opponent batting average during her final year. Alex had the most strikeouts (274), strikeouts per seven innings (11.3), and shutouts (9), both of which were conference records.

Storako revealed her decision to transfer to Oklahoma for her final year of eligibility on June 13, 2022. She compiled a 69-20 record, 20 shutouts, a 1.71 lifetime ERA, and strikeouts in 563+2/3 innings, and these stats throughout her four seasons with the Wolverines. Storako was picked first by the Oklahoma City Spark in the 2023 Women’s Professional Fastpitch draft on April 17, 2023.
