Early Life

In the 2016 MLB season, Baseball America ranked Speas as the 36th-ranked prospect after he played in the 2015 Under Armour All-America Baseball Game. At first, he was planning to play baseball at Auburn University. Eventually, he got drafted by the Rangers in the second round of the 2016 MLBN draft.

Alex kicked off his professional journey when the Texas Rangers drafted him in the second round of the 2016 MLB draft. He spent that whole year polishing his skills in minor leagues and signed for the Rangers for $1.2 million as a bonus.

On July 19, 2023, Speas was promoted to the major leagues, making him the 194th former Frisco RoughRider to play in MLB.

Speas made his debut against the Tampa Bay Rays at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. He allowed just one hit and one walk during his two scoreless innings of relief pitching. Alex also struck out four batters. He contributed to the Rangers’ 5-1 triumph over the struggling Rays, which gave them their sixth straight victory.
