At first, he was planning to play baseball at Auburn University. Eventually, he got drafted by the Rangers in the second round of the 2016 MLBN draft.

His 2.35 ERA and 12 strikeouts in five games at Triple-A Round Rock furthered his impressive performance when he was promoted there. On July 19, 2023, Speas was promoted to the major leagues, making him the 194th former Frisco RoughRider to play in MLB.

Speas made his debut against the Tampa Bay Rays at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. He allowed just one hit and one walk during his two scoreless innings of relief pitching.
