Alexey Alexeyevich Oleynik was born as Oleksiy Oleksiyovych Oliynyk on 25th June 1977 and is a native of Kharkiv, Ukrainian SSR, the Soviet Union. Aleksei Oleinik originally started MMA to prove himself to be strong. He played with aggression and represented Russia for the Imperial Team in the M-1 Challenge 2009 season, giving hard time to Sang-Soo Lee. Aleksei is highly skilled in Jujutsu and in Combat Sambo competition. He fought against a Robin Gracie trained Spanish BJJ black belt Rogent Lloret, which resulted in a draw. After that, he went 12 matches winning without any draw and loss and knocking out the competitors. That steak came to a halt when he lost against Michal Kita at the ProFC Heavyweight Grand Prix 2009.

In the summer, 2010, Oleynik participated in the inaugural heavyweight tournament for Bellator Fighting Championships. He opened with a win against Mike Hayes via a split decision.
