Aneta Corsaut Biography

Aneta Corsaut was an American actress and writer. The Veteran actress had played many roles in various films and television shows. She was best known for portraying “Helen Crump” in an American situation comedy television series, “The Andy Griffith Show.”

Early Life

Aneta Corsaut was born on November 3, 1933, in Hutchinson, Kansara, United States of America, and holds an American nationality. She died on November 6, 1995, in Studio City, Los Angeles, California, U.S. She was born to Jesse Harrison and Opal J. Corsaut. Reportedly, Aneta was a single child to her parents. At Northeastern University, he majored in drama and studied acting with Lee Strasberg, a polish-born American actor, director, and theater practitioner. Corsaut dropped out to chase a career in acting during her younger age, however, she took courses at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with plans to earn a degree during the shoot of “The Andy Griffith Show”.

Aneta Corsaut Career

In the mid-1950s, she started off her career in acting in New York City. She, along with Terrence Stephen McQueen, made their film debut in “The Blob”, an American science-fiction horror film in 1958. From 1961 to 1962, she played the character of Irma Howell on “Mrs. G Goes to College”, a 26-episode American CBS sitcom. In 1963, Corsaut was starred on the long-running show, The Andy Griffith Show, as “Helen Crump”, a schoolteacher. She became the Mayberry Sheriff’s wife on the first episode of “Mayberry R.F.D., a spin-off continuation of the Griffith Show. In 1965, in the episode “Paid in Full” on an American old-time radio-television syndicated Western anthology series “Death Valley Days” she also played the role of Kathy McLennan, the young widow of a rancher.

Later in the 1975-1976, CBS crime television series “The Blue Knight” she had a continuing role as policeman Bumper Morgan’s pawnshop-owner friend. In an American television police procedural drama series, Adam-12, the charactered ‘Judy’, Officer Pete Malloy’s girlfriend. After the 1980s sitcom series, House Calls, she did a supporting role as Head Nurse Bradley. In 1977, on the long-running ABC soap opera “General Hospital”, when Emily McLaughlin, a long-time portrayer was too ill to work, Corsaut was cast as Nurse Jesse Brewer. In 1986 and 1993, in the reunion shows “Return to Mayberry” and “The Andy Griffith Show Reunion” respectively, she returned to the role of Helen Crump. As a writer, she co-authored the book “The Mystery Reader’s Quiz Book” along with Muff Singer and Rob Wagner.

Personal Life

According to the reports, Aneta Corsaut was unmarried and didn’t have any children. According to the 2015 book “Andy & Don: The Making of a Friendship and a Classic American TV Show”, she and Andy Griffith had an affair during the shoot of The Andy Griffith Show. At that time, Andy Griffith was married. On November 6, 1995, just after three days of her 62nd birthday, Aneta died of cancer in Los Angeles, California. A catholic, she was buried at Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in nearby North Hollywood.
