Early Life
Codie Sanchez was born in Phoenix, Arizona, on 23rd August, 1986. From a young age, she had been nurtured in a working-class, Latino family, which instilled the values of self-reliance, discipline and personal responsibility. Her mother was a special education teacher, and her father was a self-made builder and entrepreneur, inspiring her motivation to do the same.
Sanchez came from a middle-class family that instilled an entrepreneurial attitude in him at an early age. She has made a habit of selling and getting creative as a kid. Prior to her entry into the corporate world, those experiences brought her a passion for business and entrepreneurship. Sanchez has a degree in journalism from Arizona State University.
As a student she was captivated by issues of investigation and social justice. Her work eventually transitioned to reporting on difficult issues along the U.S.-Mexico border, including human trafficking, cartel violence and immigration issues. Her journalism was documented and garnered many awards, including the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award.
In spite of her successes as a journalist, Sanchez ultimately determined that shifting capital and having influence would result in the changes she wished to see in systems that would happen more effectively than if she did it through reporting. This would end up being a turning point in her life and career.
Career
Codie Sanchez was one of the last journalists to enter the financial industry before the financial crisis. She started her career in institutional investing, holding a variety of investment management, private equity and venture capital positions for more than a decade.
Throughout her career she held positions at several large financial services firms, including First Trust, State Street and Vanguard, and was able to work with Goldman Sachs. In this period she acquired extensive knowledge about capital markets and wealth creation as well as experience in investment analysis and institutional sales and executive leadership.
Codie Sanchez then entered the venture capital and private investment space, gaining first-hand experience of the startup and traditional entrepreneurial environments. However, she was focusing more of her efforts on acquiring small companies while being very successful with her company. Rather than invest in high-risk start-ups, she began to travel to purchase companies that were solid and cash-producing.
During 2020 she developed a business called Contrarian Thinking, focusing on the education and media of how to make a business profitable and how to grow it. In order to continue developing her influence, Codie Sanchez authored the book “Main Street Millionaire: How to Make Extraordinary Wealth Buying Ordinary Businesses,” which sold millions of copies.
The book established her as a leading entrepreneurship acquisition specialist and helped to reach thousands of readers with the understanding that they could build wealth by owning a business rather than investing in the stock market. Today, Contrarian Thinking is catering to a large crowd of financial independence seekers who want to be financial entrepreneurs, operators and investors in the field of money.
Personal Life
Codie Sanchez is the wife of Chris Petkas, former U.S. Navy SEAL, investor and business advisor. The two have been in the public eye even while in their long-term relationship and have been interviewed together, even on podcasts and other business-related content.
Additionally, Petkas has been a growth advisor at Contrarian Thinking and a mentor. Sanchez has been emphatic on several occasions about the importance of the right choice of a life partner and how it is essential to a healthy life and success.
In the early years of her childhood she had revealed her close friendship with Petkas and then in her adult years, and finally her life together. It took Sanchez a long time to conceive their first child, Petkas’, and she had tried IVF many times before announcing her pregnancy in 2026.
