Jake Diebler was born on 28th October 1986, in the town of Gibsonburg, Ohio. His father, Keith Diebler, and his younger brother, Jon Diebler, played for Ohio State from 2007 to 2011. He attended Fostoria High School and graduated with good grades.
Career
Jake began his career path by playing basketball under his father, Keith Diebler. During his high school years, he earned numerous awards, such as being named District Player of the Year in 2003, 2004, and 2005, securing second-team All-State recognition in 2003 and 2004, and concluding his senior season in 2005 as the co-player of the year for Ohio Division II. He also led Upper Sandusky to win the State Championship and averaged 18.8 points in 2005. He committed to Valparaiso to play basketball under coach Homer Drew.
During his freshman season, he only played 18 games off the bench and averaged only 4.3 minutes per game and 1.1 points per game. His role increased dramatically during his sophomore year when he started all 31 games for Valparaiso. At that time, he averaged 32 minutes per game, 35 FG%, 2.3 assists per game, and 5.4 points per game. During his junior season, he led the team to finish 22–14, went to the 2008 College Basketball Invitational, and advanced to the second round.
He started all 36 games, averaged 30.9 minutes per game, 34 FG%, 2.6 assists per game, and 7.5 points per game. During the offseason, he traveled to West Africa with Athletes in Action. Delivered his most prolific performance during his senior season. He played 31 games, and his score averaged 33.8 minutes per game, 38.9 FG%, 1.8 assists per game, and 7.5 points per game. Jake decided to become a coach like his father, Keith Diebler, after his junior season. He was Valparaiso assistan from 2011-2013.
He was a Vanderbilt assistant from 2016 to 2019. He was Ohio State Assistant Basketball Coaches from 2019-2022. On 5th May 2022, @OhioStateHoops officially announced on Twitter that Jake has spent the past three seasons as Assistant Coach, and now, he has been promoted to the role of Associated Head Coach.
