At the 2017 Wimbledon Championships, Ofner made his ATP main draw debut after advancing from qualification and beating Kimmer Coppejans, Miljan Zeki, and Jay Clarke. He had an easy time with Thomaz Bellucci in the first round, winning in two sets. After that, he went on to win a five-set match against world No. 18 Jack Sock.
Ofner shocked his local audience once again in August at the 2017 Generali Open Kitzbühel, as he played as a wildcard and upset the tournament’s first seed, Pablo Cuevas. After beating Renzo Olivo, he advanced to the semifinals, where he ultimately lost to Joao Sousa.

He then won against Fabio Fognini, advancing to the quarterfinals of a Major for the first time in his career. Thus, he finally entered the top 80 in the rankings.
