Early Life
Ashley Shahahmadi was born on 23rd June, 1992, in Kennesaw, Georgia, outside of Atlanta. She grew up with her two brothers in a family of working men and developed many of her own qualities of resilience and determination. Cheryl’s mother, Cheryl Rebischke ShahAhmadi, had numerous jobs to make ends meet, and her father, Emad ShahAhmadi, emigrated from Iran as a teenager to work in the United States.
Shahahmadi openly discussed the hardship of her father’s abandonment of the family in her teen years when she was in high school. Those difficulties helped her to grow up fast and had much to do with her work ethic. She worked at Chick-fil-A during her high school and college years to work on her education and broadcasting career at the same time.
In her childhood, she was fascinated with sports journalism. According to an interview, she was inspired to become hooked on sideline reporting after watching a game while she was a child in Atlanta for the Atlanta Hawks. She got her passion for sports broadcasting by doing live interviews with a reporter in one of the stands; after this, she was hooked.
Later, Shahahmadi was to finish her degree in digital and broadcast journalism at the University of Georgia in 2014. She has also expanded her media experience in college and is working part-time and interning. After working on radio and acquiring experience, it was inevitable she would find herself as a TV reporter.
Career
Ashley Shahahmadi began her career in television with WTOK-TV in Meridian, MS, where she was a weekend sports anchor/reporter. It was a relatively small market, but she was getting great on-camera experience and reporting on high school athletics, regional sports events and community stories.
She then made a huge leap in her career and moved to WAPT-TV in Jackson, Miss., and became a sports anchor/reporter there. Ashley Shahahmadi is also a competent speaker and was soon prominent in the local TV community. After that, Shahahmadi moved back to Atlanta, Georgia, where she served as a social media content producer and a digital host for Fox Sports South and Fox Sports Southeast.
It was a pivotal role in her career, as it allowed her to gain more experience with the professional sports organizations and more significant regional broadcasts. Her big break came in 2018 when she was recruited to be the sideline reporter and host for the Charlotte Hornets at Bally Sports Southeast (formerly Fox Sports South).
For the next six seasons she was with the franchise and was praised for her chemistry with players, coaches and analysts. She was among the most widely known NBA reporters in the area for covering the courts and game reports.
In addition to her Hornets duties, Shahahmadi also worked for the Atlanta Braves and as an NBA TV producer, covering the Summer League and special events. She also worked as a sports and entertainment television correspondent for Country Music Television (CMT) and was a rarity in her industry.
Ashley Shahahmadi became a national name in 2023 as she joined ESPN as a college football sideline reporter for the SEC Network. She joined the SEC team that broadcast and covered football with Dave Neal and Aaron Murray and became a regular contributor to the postseason broadcasts. She was also named to NBA postseason duties at ESPN Radio this NBA postseason in 2024.
Shahahmadi was hired in 2025 to fill a large void with NBC Sports as it returned to broadcasting NBA games. It was another major break for her and made her one of the best young sports TV anchors in America.
Personal Life
Ashley Shahahmadi’s husband is Tyler Krieger. The couple was engaged in February 2023, and they were married in October of the same year. They have been featured in her social media in the past, but the duo is not particularly active in their personal lives as compared to their broadcasting career.
