Early Life
Gio Reyna was born on 13th November, 2002 in Sunderland, England and was raised in one of the best soccer families in U.S. soccer history. His father, Claudio Reyna, was a USMNT captain and has four FIFA World Cups under his name.
His mother, Danielle Egan Reyna, is also a former professional soccer player, playing for the United States Women’s National Soccer Team and having a successful college soccer career at the University of North Carolina.
Born in England, where his father was playing for Sunderland AFC, the family returned to the U.S. when Gio Reyna was a youngster and settled in Bedford, NY. Gio Reyna was raised in a family that was very passionate about soccer and fell in love with it at a very young age.
He continued playing in regionals until 2015 and was considered one of the nation’s brightest young prospects when he attended the New York City FC Academy. Another plight that struck Reyna’s childhood, however, was one that was personal.

Career
Gio Reyna had witnessed an incredible cut-through of Borussia Dortmund’s young players. In his first time in Germany, he gave coaches something to go by, who were impressed by his level of maturity, skill and knowledge on the pitch.
He had his first pro debut in January 2020 with Dortmund as one of the youngest players to make their first team debut. His breakthrough season started his 2020-21 campaign, where he was used regularly with Dortmund. Gio Reyna was full of youthful creativity and poise and scored goals of quality and was able to add more assists as well.
While playing for the German club he progressed to the highest level DFB-Pokal with the club and was considered one of the top young attacking talent players in Europe while in the club. But, each time he had another injury, more seasons of growth were lost. His injuries occurred in the fitness and muscle area and took him out of the contest, so he wasn’t able to carry any momentum.
Gio Reyna was still a good product, performing well for Dortmund and for the USMNT. Nottingham Forest was paying for his trip to the EPL; however, in the toughest league in the world, at the start of 2024, he tried a little of the rough and tumble of the EPL with Nottingham Forest.
Gio Reyna then left Dortmund to sign for Borussia Mönchengladbach for the rest of the regular season to look for a different challenge and perhaps make an impact on the side’s first team. He then worked his way up through the ranks and had his debut game in the senior team in 2020, where he has become a key player in the rotation.
His creativity and rushing ability and his being able to get past linebreakers have all been crucial in the breaking and rushing of defenses in the American attack line. The USA has gained a couple of CONCACAF Nations League championships as a player and is one of the finest talents in the future of the country’s soccer team.

Gio Reyna married his wife, Chloe Ortolano, a former Providence College soccer player. The couple had been courting each other for a long time prior to their engagement in 2024. After a few years, Reyna said she asked Ortolano to marry her, and they were engaged via social media. The couple garnered some strong support from fans and other athletes, whose fans had watched them for years.
In July 2025, they actually got married to their real love in a petite wedding amidst their friends and family members.
