Mohamed Muizzu was born on 15th June 1978, in Malé, Maldives. His father Sheikh Hussain Abdul Rahman served as the judge while his mother is Husna Adam. Muizzue has a half-sister Fathimath Saudha who is also a politician.
Muizzu attended the prestigious Majidhiyya School before pursuing his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in structural engineering at the University of London. He furthered his education by obtaining a Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Leeds.
Career
Muizzu kicked off his political journey in 2012, joining the Adhaalath Party (AP). He later served as the Minister of Housing and Environment during President Waheed’s and President Abdulla Yameen’s administrations.
His focus was on revamping infrastructure, leading projects like the Sinamalé Bridge, linking Malé to Velana International Airport, a first in Maldives. Under his leadership, the Ministry of Housing and Environment became the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure.
Muizzu oversaw various projects, including building harbors, parks, and roads, and introducing modern paving techniques in Malé. After the 2018 elections, he switched to the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), becoming vice president and heading the elections department.
