He violently dragged her across a parking lot in front of her dorm, and she dropped her phone and belongings. Her father alerted campus security while her parents filed a lawsuit against the University of Utah for failing to protect their daughter. Her ex-boyfriend committed suicide after her death, and the man who provided Rowland with the gun used in the murder was sentenced to three years in prison.
