Early Life
DeMarco was born on 27th November 1978 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Morgan is a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. During his education at the same school, he received his internship at KOTV. Later in 2001, he received his degree in the Bachelor of Science from Jackson State University, Mississippi. He is a graduate with a master’s degree from Jackson State University, Mississippi. While still in college for his master’s, he co-founded the J-School’s student chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and got himself interned with CBS Evening News and 48 Hours. Eventually, he was named a Fred Friendly Scholar, Dupont Scholar, and CBS Scholar.
DeMarco Morgan Career
Morgan started working professionally while in college and working for his master’s degree, simultaneously. During the initial stage of his career, he covered the September 11 attacks. For a short duration, he was also a teacher, teaching journalism and English at Jackson State University (for two years) and Milwaukee Area Technical College, respectively. After completing his degrees (graduation), Morgan had his first job with CBS affiliate WJTV based in Jackson, Mississippi.
In 2004, he worked as the co-anchor alongside Portia Young for nearly three years for ABC affiliate WISN. after three years in 2007, he joined NBC station WTVJ in Miami and worked as a reporter and anchor. After one year in December 2008, he became the weekend anchor and worked for NBC’s flagship station in New York, WNBC, and side by side, he worked as the cut-in anchor for MSNBC. Then in January 2012, he joined another media outlet called WXIA (Atlanta’s NBC affiliate), where he used to co-anchor the show at 6 p.m. on weeknights with Brenda Wood and the 11 PM show for nightly broadcast.
In April 2019, it was announced by the media outlet that Morgan would be joining the CBS station KCBS in Los Angeles on 6th May 2019 and will work as weekday morning anchor for the timings – 4:30 to 7:00 am and 11:00 am, alongside Suzanne Marques. During the COVID-19 lockdown, he worked as the newscast, and weekend news anchor, for a CBS station based in New York. As of December 2022, Morgan is working for ABC News.
