Ernie Lively was an American actor and acting coach. He was known for his legendary 5-decade film and TV career. In his long career, he had amassed more than 100 credits. He was mostly known for his roles in Mulholland Falls, The Beverly Hillbillies, Passenger 57, The Man in the Moon, and Shocker. He also played the role of father of his real-life daughter, Blake Lively in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants franchise.

Lively began his career with guest roles on popular series such as The Waltons and Fantasy Island. Later on, he appeared in many tv series like McCloud, Private Benjamin, CBS Schoolbreak Special, The Dukes of Hazzard, Fame, Misfits of Science, Remington Steele, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Warm Hearts Cold Feet, Hill Street Blues, and many more. His first appearance in a tv movie was in The Million Dollar Dixie Deliverance where he played the role of Danny. In 1980 he acted in Drop-Out Father. In 1986, he appeared in The Children of Timesquare. After 1987, he flourished, bagging many roles with his spectacular performance. From then on he acted in the TV series Newhart and Midnight Caller. The same year he also played a role in the tv series ‘Sisters’ and ‘Civil Wars’. In 1993, he was the Briggs in the Beverly Hillbillies. His later major tv series was The Commish, The X Files, Seinfeld, ‘Murder, She Wrote’, Malibu Shores, Renegade, Diagnosis Murder.

He played the role of Dr. Smith in The Last Best Place in 1996. In 97, he was the Todd in Fire Down Below and appeared in Senseless, The Legend Of Cryin Ryan, Goodbye Lover, and Wanted in 1998. After that in the 21st century, his works have been American Pie 2, Crossing Jordan a tv series. He was Mike in the Drew Carey Show. He also played a role in the tv series The West Wing. In 2005, he played the role of Bridget’s father in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. He played the role of Ranger Neher I’m the tv series Ghost Whisperer in 2006.
In 2008, he appeared in the film The Art of Travel with his role of Mr. Layne and the role of Coach Sam Hicks in the film The Perfect Game. Even in 2010, he was acting. He was in the tv series Outlaw and Svetlana. In 2015, he played the role of Wright Adams in Waffle Street. His last role was in Phobic as Jack Sanders. Lively along with being an actor also was an acting coach. He coached Hollywood’s young actors like Brittany Murphy, Casper Van Dien, and Jason Priestly.

He married Elaine McAlpin in 1979, she was a talent manager. They were blessed with two kids, Blake and Eric Lively. Lively also adopted Elaine’s children Lori, Robyn, and Jason. They all followed him to acting and are now established actors in the industry. He was known for being a loving and supportive father. For the last few years in was settled in Heber City in Utah with his wife.
Cause of Death
His health has not been the best over the past several years. He had a heart attack in 2003 and later underwent stem-cell therapy treatment in 2013, an experiment. He died on June 3, 2021, in Los Angeles of cardiac complications at the age of 74 but the official statement was released on June 9, 2021.
